Track your strategies. It’s very difficult to evaluate anything if you don’t have material to evaluate. Sure you can think back to what you did and try to pull the pieces together. However, if you track your steps along the way, you’ll have more information at your disposal to learn from.
Use analytics. Keep a business plan and notes about your goals, plans and the steps you took to achieve them. When a plan doesn’t work out you can go back and see where you went wrong.
Keep track of your systems. Outline your systems step by step. Often, they work well for the first few months and then something will happen that shows a fatal flaw in your system. However, if you don’t have your systems outlined you won’t have the information you need to make quick and easy corrections.
Ask for help. Consider using a consultant, mentor or peer to help you look at what went wrong. Often, an outside person can see things more clearly.
